2Q loss expected but SGD's 3Q product expansion on track

2Q's soft "skin care" sales could result in .15/shr loss but it is being addressed . SGD's President Mark Goldstein stated:

" ''As part of our efforts to improve operating results,'' Goldstein continued,'' we will introduce two new lines of skin care products during the third quarter - our Belleza Latina line especially designed for the Hispanic market, and Retinol Night ResQ, which will launch our new Alpha Hydrox Optimum Series of premium skin care products into mass merchandiser channels. "

Product(s) begin shipping in July . SGD's Retinol product forms the basis of a new "Optimum Series" premium line using a licensed "micro-sponge" skin care delivery process from APOS :

" The Company's new retinol product is being marketed under an agreement consummated during the second quarter of 1998 between the Company and Advanced Polymer Systems. " (APOS)

SGD plans further expansion , adding :

" Also, late this year or early in 1999, we plan to introduce certain products developed to help diabetics cope with cuts, bruises and dry skin problems. ''

SGD's 2Q expected $0.15/shr loss was attributed to a 17 to 18 % reduction in skin care products :

" ... sales of the Company's household products will be about the same during the second quarter of 1998 as they were in 1997, while sales of skin care products are expected to decrease by approximately 17-18% below those of the prior-year period. "
