Seems unlikely. With all the DOJ stuff going on would MSFT really want to look like they are trying to corner yet another aspect of the net (etailing)?

Coner? The segment has two strong competitors, B&N and Borders. While microsoft haters would surely howl, it would never fly in court.

By the way, Microsoft already sells cars and travel services on the net, and they can buy overpriced AMZN with monopoly money: their own stock!

To Winter , and anybody else who cares -
A buyout ?? Are you crazy ?? Generally , buyouts at this price level are done by people with a certain amount of financial savvy , experience, and an aptitude for running a business. They also have a pretty good idea what a particular entity is worth , and what the potential is.
Having said that , I doubt any of them would be interested in paying 10 to 20 times what this thing is worth. There will be a tremendous amount of money lost by those now buying AMZN , and most of them probably don't even know how to read a financial statement. In fact, that just may be a prerequisite. Good luck to all.
