Gottfried, >Paul, OTOTOT - good to have you back here. Remember, at Tahoe and Yosemite the rangers warn against feeding bears. <g><

During our trip to Yosemite and hiking the Lake Tahoe area my wife did see two eagles perched on their nest, fish and a squirrel but no bears. It's great to get home and see some bears. <g> Maybe we should send them to CA. <g> I almost called you to take you up on your sailboat offer but decided against it due to the weather. Did you make it out of the Bay last week?

>Just a question: have you ever made money because you acted on info from CNBC?<

NO, when CNBC talks their emotional talk I turn it off. I rely on the NAIC Stock Selection Guide for the fundamentals, DW for the market, sector and specific stock movements and discussions with my local consortium of researchers, those of us researchers on the net and my own research. Additionally, in the back of my mind I note the Presidential cycle percents. With the 3rd year of the Presidential cycle coming up with a median S & P growth of 25% and a 4th year of 16% the market should continue to have upward movement in 1999 and 2000. Politicans want to get re-elected and are releasing $$$$$$$$$ for projects to get re-elected.

The drawbacks to the above senerio I see are FED rate increases which could come about due to a Pacific Rim resurge and wage pressures, Clinton impeachment, a total Pacific meltdown and its impact of EPS or the Y2K problem. Or are there other problems?

Does anyone on this site have ideas how the Y2K problem will impact AMAT and the SEMI's. Is the Y2K problem strickly a software problem or is it also a hardware problem? Will the Y2K problem a positive or negative for AMAT?

Any ideas from the engineers on this site?

Just my $.02.
