'Government gloomy about Y2K readiness
WASHINGTON, June 10 (UPI) - The federal agencies that have fallen farthest behind in their efforts to prepare their computer systems for the year 2000 have been called before the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee .

The government's General Accounting Office has been issuing a series of ever-more-frantic updates on the imminent computer crisis and agencies' inadequate efforts to prevent millennial computer crashes. The crisis may come when billions of microchips across the country that have been programmed to read only the last two digits in a four digit year try to process the date 01/01/00.

'So, for gosh sakes, there's no time left to lose. Let's all get cracking on this Y2K thing right here and now. Run, don't walk, to the nearest Y2K consultant and pay whatever it takes to get that computer system into Y2K compliance.
