The best source for information that I have found so far (as a starting point) is internet2.edu

This would probably be a good place to start reading ... then the discussions begin! ;-)

Internet 2 is a sandbox for academic computer geeks disgruntled by the advent of money grubbing proles in Internet One and Forever. Qwest, Cisco, and some other companies have also managed to share in the Goregue. But in essence, the performance targets for Internet 2 will all be achieved in Internet 1 and its suppliers of WDM equipment and terabit router/switches.
