If this hasnt been answered...

1) Always limits.. never want the market maker to assign you, even if it costs more, it is worth it. This way you control the excecution.

2) If I am looking for a quickie I will go near term for months, but as a rule you ought to go in or near the money and about 2-4 even more out.. this way you can ride the waves that can occur, and if the stock goes down, the time premium can reduce the downslide that might occur otherwise.. Much safer...
