The above is fine if you consider the home and small office user. But when you start talking about the Big Boy companies then I would like to add:

Anything VDSL can do Fiber-Optic can do better. (And no waiting for chips).

I contend that any company that has $$$ and needs bandwidth in Germany will not even consider ADSL or even VDSL.

Case and point.
Over the last month I have been watching our town in the industrial area pull apart the streets, run pipes and thread cables to every one of SAP's buildings. I have tried asking the workers what kind of cables they are running only to be told that they didn't know.

So today I settled into my new office in one of SAP's new buildings. I now have FTMD. (Fiber to my desk) :-))

SAP- 4-5,000 some odd Walldorf employees.
