Roger, I didn't say it was difficult to determine whether a given elevator or any other relatively simple system has a y2k issue, just that you shouldn't dismiss the possibility without first checking. BTW, I would call Otis too, but I wouldn't necessarily take a customer service rep's word for it. I'd probably do what you suggested and see if I can enter a date with a two digit year. And, I certainly wouldn't suggest calling TAVA or any other y2k solutions provider if I was worried about an embedded system. Seems pretty obvious that one should call the manufacturer. Did I give another impression?

Another check for y2k problems, if the system does have a 2-digit
year representation, would be to find out what day of the week
01/01/00 is. If it's Monday, look out; if it's Saturday, it's
correct.
