rhet0ric,

For your immediate info needs I offer you this angustel.com Updated weekly and with his regular newspaper, radio and TV coverage, Mr. Angus has to be your man.

On the other fronts, other than possibly Uncle Ted (our local media baron), most folks up here only have an inkling about CDMA. However, as I mentioned before, Bell Mobility, of BCE(Nortel) fame, are "Building the Wireless Universe". They started about a year ago. Right after they abandoned (and possibly crushed) their operating TDMA system. Their ad slogan is "There is a Difference." The BCEites are very market savvy folks with muchos $$$. I think they got a good deal of it from selling CDMA wireless stuff to you southern folks.

Overall, I'd say our subscriber situation is very similar to that of the US. We have 4 national metropolitan networks. One TDMA, one GSM and, of course, two CDMA systems. As in US, analog fills in the rural cracks and is still available in the cities for the multitude of poor folks stuck on long term contracts. In my biased books, CDMA is winning the conversion battle and Fido (new GSM kid on the block) seems to putting up the best battle. Cantel (TDMA) could very well be a huge loser, everyone (including the cows) hates Rogers [period].

As far as 3G goes, I remember we had (or maybe having) a Hog Town Gathering on this matter. I'll have to dig around and see if anything enlightening occurred. I am pretty confident, given the power of BCE, we will follow the ranks of the Q as the good 52nd (or is it 53rd now?) state. To me the only interesting game in town is how long it will take T to relieve Uncle Ted of his misery. He sure has had a tough time of it given that he was the heir of "The Batteryless Radio Tycoon".

As far as our loonie goes, don't sweat it, BCE (and Clearnet for that matter) have enuff George Washington's in Canada Trust to keep the Q's DSO in line. I guess the difference between the value of our 2X4's and Maurice's wool is only reflective of the differential cost of OmniTracs vs BoatTracs.

Being a civil Cdn, I obviously think both you, L and Maurice are all right. We're boring and Japan and SheepTracs have more potential to affect the value of the Q over the next year.

I have been researching subscriber numbers. Will post when I have something of intellect. nf

*OT* to continue the latest trend...

I also find it strange that Canadian figures are not added into US figures, after all Canadians are just Americans with different money.
<GGG>

Perhaps that goes along way into explaining the relationship. It is refreshing when you stand back and look at it. Two neighboring states that for the most part dont squabble about everything. I am a strong believer in a point developed by Issac Asimov in his 'Foundation Trilogy', that being, the best way to prevent a conflict is to be unrestricted trade partners. Maybe the Q should start selling Ericson equipment, which of course would require E to sell Q stuff!
