PALO ALTO, Calif., and ISLANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16,
1998--Hewlett-Packard Company and Computer Associates today announced that CA's flagship products, Unicenter TNG and Jasmine, will support HP's future IA-64 (Intel Architecture, 64-bit) based systems.

HP and Intel co-developed EPIC (Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing), the technology foundation for IA-64. Today's announcement further strengthens Unicenter TNG's position as a leading enterprise-management platform and will enable Jasmine to exploit the performance and scalability of the IA-64 architecture for database applications.

The CA and HP relationship continues to build on both companies' strengths and core competencies to deliver solutions that give their mutual customers significant competitive advantages. When CA introduced Unicenter on UNIX(R) systems in 1993, it selected
HP-UX(1) as the development platform. When HP required a solution that would enable customers to integrate management of mainframe and other systems, CA helped meet that need.

Now, the two companies are co-developing solutions that provide enterprise customers with the increased performance, scalability and manageability they need to meet their mission-critical processing requirements. These solutions enable organizations to incorporate
a wider range of technologies into their IT infrastructures, including business and management objects, Java(TM) language-based applications, network computers and manageable non-IT devices. HP and CA believe that customers will also experience compelling boosts in
performance and scaleability with the combination of IA-64-based systems and CA software.

"This highly strategic collaboration with HP enables us to pursue our mutual long-term goals of market leadership and superior value for our clients," said Reuven Battat, CA executive vice president and general manager, global marketing. "By being among the first to support HP's
IA-64-based systems, we will be able to provide our clients with a clear roadmap for the evolution of their Unicenter TNG and Jasmine installations well into the future. HP's co-development work with Intel on EPIC makes it the ideal partner for IA-64 systems."

"As HP's enterprise customers transition to IA-64, enterprise management and object-oriented-database systems will serve an increasingly vital role in the overall IT infrastructure," said Bill Russell, HP vice president and general manager of the Enterprise
Systems Group. "We are working to bring to the IA-64 platform software solutions, like
Unicenter TNG and Jasmine, to provide customers with leading performance, scalability and
long-term investment protection."

In collaborating to engineer IA-64 technology into both Unicenter TNG and Jasmine, CA and
HP are bringing the following significant benefits to their customers:

-- Customers who license Unicenter TNG on either HP-UX or Windows NT(R) can be assured
that the application will run on HP's future IA-64 systems. HP's commitment to compatibility will
enable those running Unicenter TNG on either platform to transition seamlessly to HP's
next-generation IA-64 systems.

-- Customers gain the flexibility to choose between Unicenter TNG on HP-UX or Windows NT
without concern for potential platform limitations, enabling them to deploy system platforms
appropriate to their needs. -- Customers can consider a broader range of applications
because of the availability of 64-bit computing, including such Jasmine-based object-oriented
applications as multimedia, Internet, full-motion video and audio. -- Customers will continue
enjoying the high performance and scalability of today's HP 9000 Enterprise Servers and HP
NetServer systems, and HP's future IA-64-based systems will move to an even higher level of
performance. By supporting IA-64, Unicenter TNG and Jasmine will experience breakthrough
performance as they take full advantage of 64-bit processing.

<<No, that is not a detachment. Novell, Apple, Intuit, Borland are simply walking carcasses. Novell is simply one of many victims that had got in MSFT's path. Novell is no longer a threat to MSFT and like Apple they can now be of some use to MSFT with respect to the FTC. As for Intel, my guess is it doesn't really matter, but of course Intel isn't going to say no to anyone wishing to use its chips.>>

It appears you have taken your eyes off of Novell the past year, as anyone buying their shares in the Dec97-Jan98 period has almost doubled their money, and the cat isn't yet out of the bag!!.......;)
