And don't let anyone tell you that "the Y2k work will be done on Jan. 1 2000. Most respected authorities concede all the work will not be done until 2003-5.
As we speak, 70% of the world has yet to begin to address this problem, AT ALL. Those that have their heads out of the sand are performing what is known as triage (after taking inventory of the systems they have, a job that in most cases has never been done).
Triage is a battlefield term referring to a process that medics would perform...who is too far gone to help, who can survive without immediate attention, and finally, who needs immediate attention. Immediate attention is going to companies' and governments "mission-critical" systems, those that mean survival to the org.
At this point, it'll be a challenge just to complete mission-critical systems by Jan. 1, 2000.
This is a widely accepted fact by those who have studied the issue.
The rest of the Y2k problems, the non- mission- critical ones, will be either trashed if possible, or fixed after the mission-critical systems.
Just a few fundamental facts for some of the pure technicians on the board.
