Pfizer to Begin Advertising Viagra in Consumer Magazines

Bloomberg News
June 17, 1998, 3:24 a.m. PT

New York, June 17 (Bloomberg) -- Pfizer Inc.'s planning to
start advertising in October its impotence drug Viagra in
consumer magazines as part of a larger promotional campaign for
the drug, the Wall Street Journal reported, ''citing people
familiar with Pfizer's plans.'' The campaign also will include
material sent to doctors' offices, and while Pfizer declined to
confirm its consumer ad plans or provide any description, Viagra
ads in medical journals could provide some indication. The ads
feature a photo-spread of older couples dancing cheek-to-cheek
and appear in the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of
American Medical Association and about 48 other medical
publications, the paper reported.

Pfizer yesterday said that its U.K. laboratory's working to
develop an improved version of Viagra that's faster acting and
has less side effects.
