Oracle earnings due amid sales surge

Oracle shares likely will be in play on Wednesday as the database software giant is expected to report fiscal fourth-quarter earnings after the market closes. Analysts expect sales growth at the company (ORCL) to outpace the increase in earnings. Merrill Lynch analyst Chris Shilakes projects the Redwood Shores, Calif.-based company will earn 39 cents per share, which is 1 cent more than the consensus estimate. The 8 percent earnings increase compares to a projected sales growth of 21 percent. Shilakes sees Orcle recording $2.37 billion in revenue, led by faster growth in its applications business. Shares closed off 5/16 at 24 1/4.
