Guardian Technologies International Applauds Legislation of Bulletproof Vests For Nation's Law Enforcement Officials June 17, 1998 12:44 PM DULLES, Va., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Guardian Technologies International, Inc. GRDN , The Life-Saving Company, applauds the signing of the "Bulletproof Vest Partnership Act of 1998." The $75 million ($25 million for each of fiscal years 1999 through 2001) appropriated by this legislation will enable numerous State, local and tribal law enforcement officers to obtain much needed body armor. Approximately 150,000 men and women or 25% of the nation's law enforcement officers are working without this basic protective equipment. This Act allows many law enforcement agencies, especially those in cities of less than 100,000 residents, to provide body armor to their officers. "Those brave men and women who are on the front line in the war on drugs and crime have waited a very long time for this legislation," said Oliver L. North, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. "In my travels across the nation, I frequently talk with law enforcement officers and find astonishing the number of officers who day after day are asked to protect their citizens from crime without the protection of body armor. I am pleased President Clinton and Congress were able to agree on this Life-Saving legislation." Mr. North added, "Guardian stands ready to work with local governments, their police and sheriffs departments, to provide the best American-made personal protection equipment for our nation's finest."
