Sam,

Thanks for your reply. You are missing my point a little. I agree that
the story is not absolutely ridiculous so I don't expect that.
There is indeed some truth to certain interpretations of that news story. Again, read it carefully. In that case what is
ATT supposed say?

I ask then, why has no domestic news service gotten an independent confirmation? The fact that this came out only in the LT
is what makes this suspicious.

OK here is a good test question for a journalist..."Has anyone from
your company (to ATT rep) admitted to the LT that a recent offer
"comfortly above" AOL's current market price been made and turned
down.

Why can't David Faber confirm? Surely if this thing was not treading
on damaging litigation risk by AOL (on virtue of it being an
accurate reportage of events) I am sure AOL would want it broadcast
over the airwaves by CNBC rather than coming out in the LT.

On the other hand everything so far indicates some "good ole boy"
giving a "tip" to an LT cub reporter and taken to town by an editor
unfamiliar, understandably so given the location, with recent US
M&A scuttlebutt.

I will wait for a domestic first hand account which states

'a source
from ATT said " An offer was made on June ...for .... and ...." '

Until then, I remain extremely skeptical.

Take Care,
Joe

to heed his warning.
