HILLSBORO, ORE. (June 17) BUSINESS WIRE -June 17, 1998--RadiSys Corp., a leading supplier of embedded computing solutions, today introduced the single slot EPC-202 and the double-slot EPC-200 CompactPCI (cPCI) boards featuring the 266Mhz, mini-cartridge, mobile Intel Pentium(Note A) II for superior performance and quick implementation in telephony applications. Both boards combine the high performance, low-voltage technologies of the mobile Pentium II processor with a 440BX chipset and dual 144-pin SODIMM sockets. "We needed a single-slot Pentium II on a CompactPCI form factor fast to be competitive in a fiercely volatile telecommunications market," said John Shaw, Summa Four vice president for business development. "When being first-to-market means everything, RadiSys demonstrates the technical know how, engineering expertise, and leadership qualities to produce positive results under extreme pressure." Summa Four, Manchester, NH, a leading worldwide provider of open, programmable switching platforms that enable telecommunications providers to build networks that support the rapid deployment of new wireline and wireless services, is an early adopter of the EPC-202. The EPC-202 provides a highly valued single-slot, mobile Pentium II solution by transferring the processor module onto a streamlined baseboard which features modular video via a PMC slot, a watchdog timer, dual USB, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, parallel port, IDE, and two serial ports. The double-slot EPC-200 contains one 10/1000 Base TX Ethernet port, Fast SCSI II, an optional 2.5" ATA hard drive, modular video, a watchdog timer along with the standard PC connectors (serial, parallel, speaker, real-time clock, PS/2 keyboard & mouse). "A major telecom customer required our mobile Pentium II cPCI board in an accelerated time-frame to meet the demanding time-to-market requirements of the telecommunications industry," said Arif Kareem, vice president and general manager of the RadiSys Telecommunications Division. "Because of the RadiSys unique modular design approach, we were able to quicken our planned product development and easily create the EPC-200 within the customer's time constraints for prototype delivery." Hardware and software development are relatively easy because both the EPC-202 and EPC-200 run Microsoft Windows(Note A) NT and both conform to PC standards and software compatibility. RadiSys, in keeping with its "perfect fit" solutions for custom applications, offers custom and semi-custom modification to either board. Price and Availability Engineering prototypes for the EPC-200 and EPC-202 are available now. Production is expected later this year. Volume pricing will be available upon production release.
