Do any posters (supporter or bashers) here or in SI have any experience in coal? I do, and from what I've read, there is money to be made. How much? Depends on the reserves, the type (surface or underground), conversion costs, etc... I'm more familiar with the "Southern" coal, but $25/ton is very realistic (if it's low sulfur, it could easily be $35/ton, possibly for export). I've seen people quoting profit margins all over the
place....if the coal is easily accessible (via dragline or D9's), cost could be as low as $10/ton. If burden is heavy, it could cost $20/ton. Coal CAN BE a very proifitable business if done correctly. Marketing of the coal is as important as its extraction. Costs to initiate a "coal mine" are high due to reclamation bonds, permitting, water containment, equipment, etc...but the areas described in the press releases are accustomed to that already.
High BTU/low sulfur coal is fetching fair $$$....MTEI has potential if things are done right......I'm only a lurker here and on SI, and don't follow all too closely, so may have missed a press release or two, but from what I've seen, this one has a good chance if the right choices are made along the way......I'm long (what the heck???)
