I was reading that the NY Fed stepped in. The author opined that the NY Fed runs the U.S. at crunch time, that it was the they that stopped the decline in '87.

His opinion further was that not only would Washington and Tokyo benefit, but Hong Kong indirectly. Also, near term, that any pullback in the market would be unsuccessful.
