Siemens announces new HEALTHCARE Intranet.....

"Siemens Intranet Solution Relieves Healthcare Information
Management Ills: Robust Intranet Solution Installed in 60
Days at Up to Half the Cost of Competing Offerings

12:35 p.m. Jun 17, 1998 Eastern

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- (BW HealthWire) -- June 17, 1998--
Siemens Business Communications today introduced an
intranet solution designed for the healthcare industry that can
be installed in 60 days and at up to 50-percent less cost than
comparable offerings.

The solution consists of a robust healthcare intranet architecture
featuring a proactive information delivery system and web-based
paging, professional and consultative services, hardware and
software. It features 750 customizable categories in the site
architecture, push technology to selectively provide information
to those who need it, simple web authoring for both HTML and
Java usage, a sophisticated browser paging tool, and open
standards for easy integration with Microsoft NT-based operating
platforms. Siemen's healthcare intranet is being offered initially
to organizations with more than 500 employees-- which equals
about 70 percent of all healthcare facilities in the U.S. The
offering will be orderable on July 1st. The average system cost
will be around $250,000.

According to a 1998 HIMSS (Healthcare Information and
Management Systems) survey, the number two issue facing
healthcare executives is system and information integration.
Siemen's healthcare intranet offers a unique way to solve this
problem. Intranets are valuable disseminators of information
in business and institutional environments. However, several
inhibitors have slowed their deployment in hospitals: they can
cost anywhere between $300,000 to $1,000,000 depending
on their complexity; they typically take six to 12 months to
install; and they require a significant commitment of human
resources. In fact, Year 2000 software issues currently take
precedence in healthcare MIS departments.

Siemens healthcare intranet delivers patient information,
research, market reports and other data to physicians,
clinicians and executives via email, fax and pager. The
system's web-based paging feature communicates with
on-site paging systems, and local and nationwide paging
services, enabling doctors, nurses or administrative staff to
communicate with one-another via the intranet.

The solution's hardware is backed by Siemens nationwide
24-hour-per-day, seven-day-per-week service and support
infrastructure for a minimum of three years, while software
support is available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to
8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Early adopters of Siemen's Healthcare intranet solution
include design partners Elizabeth General Medical Center
in Elizabeth, NJ, a 1,600-employee facility; and
Northeast Health Systems in Beverly, Mass., which has
1,400 employees.

"Siemens delivered in two months what it would have taken
four full-time employees (if I had them) over a year to complete
-- and I know I would have had to go back to the board and
ask for more budget for a second year," said Steven A.
Rector, director of information systems at Northeast Health
Systems.

"The pre-defined healthcare structure enables us to immediately
begin loading critical information, while the open platform allows
us to plan for future integration of all our systems," he added.

Siemens has more than 100 years of experience in healthcare.
