HOW ABOUT THIS.... MR BIG SHOT.... Norfolk Southern Transportation Services The Kopperston Coal Transportation System, located in West Virginia, is Norfolk Southern's innovative way of bringing coal to the railroad, instead of taking the railroad to the coal source. The loadout facility loads a 100-car unit train in less than four hours and is equipped with a weigh bin capable of loading up to 140 tons per car. Norfolk Southern coal and ore customers benefit from a computerized Coal Tracking System that allows immediate access to shipping data for coal, coke and ore moving anywhere on the Norfolk Southern system. Only the customer has access to information about his business. Pier 6, located at Lamberts Point in Norfolk, is the world's largest and fastest coal transloading facility. Pier 6 serves coal producers in Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia, where some of the finest low-sulfur metallurgical coal in the world is mined. Specialized Equipment COLTainer Service moves coal in high-capacity containers that travel via rail on 100-ton flatcars. At an interchange point, side-loaders place the containers on special truck chassis that haul them directly to customers not served by rail. COLTainer Service is designed to compete for coal business in short-haul markets. Top Gons are Norfolk Southern's modified gondolas that accommodate higher-capacity coal loads. Over the next decade, Norfolk Southern is investing $400 million to rebody coal-carrying hoppers and gondolas. Norfolk Southern has also purchased new aluminum gondolas for coal shipments and state-of-the-art locomotives to have the most cost-effective, fuel-efficient fleet in North America. In 1994, $16 million surge silos were added at Norfolk Southern's Lamberts Point facility in Norfolk to improve the efficiency of ship loading. Notice these points. 1)Largest and Fastest Coal Transloading Facility 2)Finest low-sulfur metallurgical coal in the world. 3)Spending $400 million in the next decade to update the already finest facilities.... I REST MY CASE!!!! Lee...
