A final update on Tibor's trip to Alberta last week, Richard. The following release was filed this afternoon. It is hard to discuss all the ramifications of this system in a short release, but, this is a significant development for us on the market side. For what its worth, we won this contract in February and completed it Friday. It had some technical challenges that were difficult, but we overcame them with a little ingenuity and lots of hard work. UNITEC INTERNATIONAL CONTROLS CORPORATION 8553 Commerce Court, Burnaby, B.C. V5A 4N4 June 23, 1998 CUSIP # 90924R104 VSE Symbol: UIC SEC. # 82-2551 UNITEC COMPLETES GAS WELL HEAD & PIPELINE SCADA SYSTEMS Further to its news release of February 3, 1998, Unitec is pleased to announce completion of two SCADA systems for Renaissance Energy's Alberta gas field and pipeline operations. These systems have introduced a number of significant advancements in the Company's growing solutions for the oil and gas industry. Unitec's powerful communications capability allowed its field RTUs to collect proprietary data from ITT Barton gas flow computers, Hawkeye governor controls and various intelligent field instruments. The RTUs then transmit the information along with other sensor data through its fault tolerant intelligent radio communications network for real-time monitoring and control. The Host Computer features "Unitec Gold" software with virtual reality display, historical trending with zoom in and zoom out capability, dynamic addition and deletion of operating wells, remote upload and download of gas sensor orifice diameters, upload of ITT Barton data files from off-line RTUs, and gas quality parameters. Remote blow-down control and pig launching capabilities in addition to water dump counting from the Unitec Host Computer through to its field equipment, provides improved gas well maintenance for gas collection operations. The Unitec Gold Host Computer software also provides system wide and individual well reports, on-line alarm setpoint editing and alarm generation on digital and analog signals. Unitec's fault tolerant RTU architecture provides high reliability for the unattended field equipment. An estimated 14,000 new gas wells are planned for the 1998/99 Alberta drilling season of which 70% historically become productive. Approximately 50% of those will require SCADA, which combined with an existing base market represents a market potential of $250 million for that Province alone.
