DSL status at Seattle ISP Halcyon.com

DSL update

We're continuing to work on developing our DSL Internet service. As part of this process, we're dealing with a number of issues, including:

The U S West tarriff for DSL service in Washington has been delayed for another month. In the view of the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC), U S West did not meet its commitment to 'significantly deploy' DSL and to equip a 'significant number' of the ISPs to offer DSL.
You can read the Seattle Times' coverage of the story here.

The U S West tarriff for DSL service in Oregon is delayed for 6 months while the Oregon Utilities and Transportation Commission investigates some issues it has with U S West. Ralph Sims (one of our founders and board member of WAISP (the Washington Association of Internet Service Providers), is working with the Oregon UTC to communicate what was negotiated with Washington ISP's, and to give them feedback about what is working in Washington state and what they may be able to improve upon in Oregon.

GTE has an approved FCC tarriff for service, but is not making it available to the general public at this time. We expect them to begin accepting orders next month.

We're conducting some service trials of DSL service in order to get a better idea of how to position it in relation to our other connectivity options (such as ISDN and Frame Relay).

We anticipate initially offering a simple,   la carte service that can be used in conjunction with existing Northwest Nexus service. This will be targeted primarily at 'early adopters' and will be priced to be attractive to folks who want to 'tinker' with the technology.

As we develop a track record with DSL, we'll create complete solution packages similar to our other services (e.g. OfficeOnline).

We'll be adding a 'DSL Update' page to our Web site that will provide up-to-date information about:
