Well - (in the approximate words of Opus the penguin) you can't expect me to oppose that!!
I'm not sure where I heard that. Maybe from my parents. While they weren't religious, they make Barry Goldwater look liberal. Go figure.

(edit) Reading your exchange with Penni on the topic, maybe I better revise my opinion of the Spockster. Spouse and I are practicing these things. We have two of those thick paperbacks (one is What to Expect the First Year, and another is a different but similar volume our pediatrician sent us home with) and they were a wellspring of information.

Without the books, we wouldn't have known to let Helen have some exercise time on her belly each day, even though she vociferously objects. Another new mother on the block relayed a tale of one baby who wasn't put on his belly - and now he needs some phyical therapy. Moral of the story for me anyway is that being a parent (I hate the faux verb "parenting") is not intuitive.

But something's working. Helen is a pleasant, good-natured kid. The other day, though, I made the mistake of lying on the carpet and holding her airplane-style over my chest. She drooled and bull's-eyed my open mouth. Eeeewwww.
