The lead character in "Eon" is a woman. Spouse enjoyed the book a lot.

"Blood Music" is not violent - Arnie wouldn't star in the movie. No guns, bombs or anything. A guy invents human cells that are...smart. And something like telepathic. I won't say more - but - very cool book. One of those sci-fi books which stretches your brain.

Hi Christine,

I've been on this thread before battling Evil Emile. I'm glad that prehistoric relic hasn't shown up for awhile.

Greg Bear writes wonderful science fiction. EON is a book that makes you think of possibilities. I may be a slightly biased, but I don't believe most women enjoy science fiction. Its a gender thing. Hey, most men don't read the romance novels. As I sit writing this with my baby daughter in my lap, I hope she grows up to love science fiction. As a kid, I could not get enough of sci-fi books.

I will tell you a book that both women and men enjoy a great deal. Jack Finney wrote "Time and Again", a novel about time travel back to 19th century New York. It is filled with period illustration. The book is brilliant. My wife absolutely loved it--and she does not like science fiction whatsoever. I would highly recommend reading this book first if you have never read sci-fi. Tell me how much you enjoyed it after you finish!

Blood Music by Bear is also a brilliant piece of work. Some have called the ending trancendental in its appeal. But try Finney's book first. Its great.
