Additionally, there were two hunky policepersons of the male variety, and four volunteers, all of whom were genteel ladies of the Quaker persuasion. Muffy could tell they were members of the Society of Friends, because they were wearing those grey costumes with white collars or bonnets that she had seen in Friendly Persuasion. Maybe it was black bonnets. Cute white aprons, too. Also in the back of the ambulance, sitting quietly in the corner with a computer on his lap and a copy of the WSJ stuck in his pocket, was an analytical- looking fellow who reminded Muffy, somehow, of Al Pacino, or Robert DeNiro, or Sylvester Stallone, if you get Muffy's drift, and who was referred to by the Quaker ladies as "Joe."

It was crowded in the back of the ambulance, and hot.
