X,

Thanks for your pans. I generally agree, except for Godfather II, which I thought was better than I, primarily because of DeNiro as the early Don and the very authentic period reproduction of the Italian section in New York. The authenticity even stretched to DeNiro speaking Italian (I am told with a pretty good Sicilian accent) for most of the first part, with subtitles.

I thought Silence of the Lambs was a mediocre production of a mediocre book, and Goodfellas was just fair for the genre. I would replace it with Once Upon a Time in America (the original long version) for a better example of this type, and I would toss out Pulp Fiction and add Fargo.

I also thought Tootsie was stupid.

And we agree on adding Hanna and Her Sisters, Taxi Driver, and the Good Earth.

Many of the Hollywood Hundred also have to be evaluated now for how they appeared at the time, within the framework of society at their time of release. That makes a difference.

And of course: De gustibus non est disputandum.

Jack
