TOKYO -- A top official at Sun Microsystems on Thursday said he saw the delay of Intel's Merced processor as a "huge opportunity" for his company's competing Sparc architecture. However, he also reaffirmed Sun's commitment to the 64-bit Merced chip once it does ship.

I am a little confused. Zander is saying that the impact of the strong dollar will cause a situation similar to that of the 3rd quarter (last quarter). Only thing is, wasn't their 3rd quarter OK? I thought they either met or exceeded expectations slightly. Not sure of the facts. Would appreciate any comments to clarify.
