Great article! It seems to me that Japanese culture is more corprate then social. In this I mean that they have always had a model for their economy, and a population that obeys. They have always been focused on improving japenese influence, and wealth in the world and especially in Asia. This has always been an intregal part of their culture. This is unlike America where social freedoms are the crux of our culture. In actuality feeling secure in the world is the central theme within the Japenese psychee. I Feel as with a corporation, fixated on growth and dominence a bottom must be hit before any change can be made. The more success achieved the harder to hit bottom. General Motors is a great example of change being denied until bankruptcy was iminent in the 80's. Japan is just coming close to absorbing its problems, and hopefully dealing with them. The one cultural atribute that we all forget is a positive one. Japan has historicly done in shorter time periods what western countries have taken. Their whole industrial birth, and rebirth after WWII was nothing short of miraculous. They have been able to do this due to the very reasons they are now in a mess. They are on the same page, Govt, Biz, citezens. Once they realize the problem, and decide on a plan there is no country more able to swiftly coordinate all aspects of their society to a specific goal. I have confidence that the loss of prestige, and insecurity will now drive them to make these rapid changes. I think alot of people have underestimated the Japenese. It wasnt long ago that the world was critical of the USA, and said we had paralysis, insurmountable Natl debt etc. It seams even with are ineffective govt we pulled are selves through. In short dont count the Japs out they have a long history of dealing with change, governed by copying outside trends. P.S. sorry if im rambling im quite sleepy
