Here is your real upcoming global Standard:

CD-RW

"Philips' market data shows that only the CD format can claim a worldwide installed base of more than 200 million CD-ROM drives and over 600 million consumer CD players. CD-RW drives can create discs that are compatible with this entire installed base of CD readers as well as with the newest DVD equipment. No other storage format of more than 1.4 MB enjoys such universal compatibility as writable CDs."

Yes, CD-ReWrite.

15 Million CD-ReWrite units to ship this year alone. 6 Million this last year shipped. Shipments growing exponentially.

I'm getting a CD-RW this next month so I can burn .49› CD-R's and $10 CD-RW. This is dirt cheap for 650MB.

BTW, Roland is offering a CD-RW bundle with its new VS-1680 hard disc recorder. No Jaz is even offered as an option. Syjet remains Roland's recommended removable hard disc drive. They dropped the Jaz because of product returns and reliability problems.
