Re: Where is MRVC going?

Sector Investor,
Thanks for your reply to my questions.

Eariler you wrote: "Isn't it about time our 4 strong buy firms interview MRVC about Q2 prospects? We need some fresh research reports. Thw WDM announcement is wonderful and should start our move up, if the news gets wider distribution."

Microsoft Investor site shows only two analyst covering MRVC earnings estimates. One or both of them raised their estimates to $.31 from $.30 for Q2. I know it's not much, but to get a raise in this environment, is a heck of a lot better than lowering estimates! There are four analysts generally covering the stock as you say, and all four have a "strong buy" on it.

Let me ask you another question, if you don't mind. I've been a long time follower of Cisco and Ascend. Both are gearing their products to be able to supply the "telcos" with carrier class solutions to help build the new data networks capable of video, voice, data. I really admired them, especially Cisco for having this vision years back. Chambers was the first data networking cheerleader for VoIP that I'm aware of. At least he made the most noise about it.

But what about MRVC? Are they going after the larger customers? I get mixed up when I read about MRVC. I can't tell where they are heading? Are they happy in the corporate world? Are they, or have they developed carrier class products? Sometimes I get the feeling they are, then sometimes I don't? I really appreciate your link to the customer list you gave me. But it doesn't seem like MRVC is interested in products for the new era (as in the marketing coup "Sprint ION" announcement) of networking.

Here's a better way to put my question. Nortel, Alcatel, Lucent, Siemans, etc.. all were considered traditional circuit switched telecom suppliers. Well suddenly they saw the "future" and became data networkers overnight! It took a few full page WSJ ads and billions of dollars, but they positioned themselves to be a part of this new era of converged networks. Where Ascend (via Cascade purchase), Cisco, and even FORE were already entrenched. But where does MRVC fit into this picture? Or do they? I cannot figure them out. Are they a 3Com and Cabletron, or are they a Cisco?

Thanks for your help and I would appreciate your opinion.

PS Funny comment you had about MRVC's website. I think they should hire your daughter to upgrade it! Very embarassing for MRVC.
