Disney Is in Talks to Buy Stake in Infoseek, Newspaper Reports

Burbank, California, June 18 (Bloomberg) -- Walt Disney Co. is in talks about acquiring a minority stake in Infoseek Corp., the Internet search and directory company, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the discussions. People familiar with Disney's thinking say its Internet group's considering using Infoseek, or another major hub site on the Web, to boost traffic at its existing sites, which include ABCNEWS.com and ESPN SportsZone. Disney's considered all of the major Internet-portal companies, though it's been put off by their increasingly high valuations, the paper said.

Excite Inc. this month said it will feature news from Disney's Disney, ESPN and ABC units on Excite's Internet site, which helps people search the global computer network.
