I read this VSNT news this morning and I wasn't overly impressed...
Sure it's great for VSNT to get involved with such a renowned corporate icon as Eastman Kodak but notice that the project doesn't start from Kodak's US HQs: it's a "pet project" initiated by the Australian subsidiary. As far as ODIS is concerned, it's good to see that mainstream corporations are --slowly but surely-- shifting more and more of their advanced developments to the "OO" paradigm.

Yet I think that the day Kodak will gear up its e-imaging business to an ubiquitous OO-environment, several key criteria will make it switching to Object Design. ODIS's ObjectStore is no longer an "isolated" offering, it's rather a networked product that is a product which has been integrated with MSFT, SUNW, Andromedia,... All these so-called strategic alliances will pay off big when large accounts will have to be dealt with.

Gustave.

Kodak's Versant purchace in Austalia...

Yes Erez I saw the press release on the Versant thread. I made some comments there.

Versant normally claims finance and telecoms as their strong areas. Well it's no secret that Australia's largest telco is a strong ObjectStore customer (there are press releases and stuff on the website). Also, my company delivers finance solutions using ObjectStore; I haven't heard of any Versant customers in the Australian finance market.

Kodak will be a good customer for Versant, the only problem is that there are few other companies in the same industry as Kodak. I really wish Versant all the best, since ODIS needs a strong competitor.
