Milesofstyles, thanks for the ELGT info. I am trying to find if there are competing telephone technologies in Africa and most specifically, in the Congo. ELGT offers wireless service. Is there an ambitious plan to provide wired service ? I'm thinking that there must be because the number of interested customers is not very high concidering the
percentage of the population that have a telephone.

"Meanwhile, ELGT plans to aid in financing of the first module wireless telephone system in Kinsana, capital of the Republic of Congo. Funds will be made available through ELGT's designated bank. This is in anticipation of beginning telephone service in October or November of 1998. AfriTel estimates the number of subscribers on the waiting list for this state-of-the-art system to be approximately 18,000. Approximately 3,000 will be connected following completion of the system in 1998 with the balance connected in 1999. "
