>> They are afraid that an internal Vapor! drive will cause product returns necessary when the drive fails. Once the Vapor! drive is broken, you have to return the whole Palm Pilot, Cell Phone, or Windows CE unit for repair.<<

I guess that explains why laptops have been such a failure. And how in the hell did zip which was so soundly rejected by OEM's in the beginning get to where it is today; included by the major OEM's?

I guess your above styled strategic thinking identified IOM as a short candidate at $2. Is that why you're so pissed?

With Flash cards, if the Flash Card is faulty, just get a new Flash
Card. No need to return the whole device like when a Vapor! drive fails. This is a
major reason why Iomega's Vapor! has NO OEM's to this day.

Like I posted a lot of times, a 40mb flash card is currently selling for $369. Your solution is not fiscally sound.

Fundamentally I agree with you Rocky that the current mobile clik! is a faulty product. I think product acceptance will be low for the following reason:

1. Transfer of data from Flash format to clik! while on a site shoot (friend's house, vacation, etc.) requires an extra step in the user's picture taking procedure. It either requires 2 flash disks (8mb - $100), or a stop and download procedure.

The target market for this procedure must be people who refuse to buy a clik! based camera.

2. Too many pieces. Too many intermediary steps

3. NiMH battery not enough power.

4. $200 too high

HOWEVER
Clik! will be a success IF:

1. Cameras have built in clik! drive
2. premium for cameras w/ clik! is < $100 over non clik! camera
3. data transfer rate can increase to 1 mb/sec. (problematic because of power consumption)
4. Inclusion into CE / PalmPilot devices (requires a 1-2 chip solution sans drive mechanism)
