But you could easily rescan and populate the database with the newest and correct data.

Yes, which is exactly what I do with my night batch routine. Point is you CANNOT use automatic update metastock dirs to acheive this and therefore should be avoided like the plague...

Hi Richard- Sean- Gary - Brooke and the gang:
I am out of the country and my net access got broken for a while- still missing email
my 2 cts on data population.

I first created a scan- actually already there- I think it is called " output all symbols" to create- all symbols . I then went to virtual and dragged symbols.lst over to the virtual profile- this updates all stocks- I can then access the same - principally in advanced GET which within itself bypasses the MS formatting.
I then create 2 virtual subdirectories through a scan which I update weekly-
One is called 300vol which has stocks basically over 300 k in volume and over $10. The other is called small cap which has about 1000 symbols which covers stocks over 25k in volume and over $5- The two files are basically mutually exculsive. I then run all my scans with those two files as "input files". The all symbols file- is available primarily for advanced GET.
I run all my scans on QP- I do preliminary system testing on QP- through a "backtesting process" which is documented in the scans- They are on Brooke's site- I think. I do serious sytem testing in WOW.

They were all created by Andy- and I just use his scans(gg)

Each night the virtual scan removes the prior day's scan and replaces it with tonights scan- as my scan can run multiple days- I can have say the last 3 days there- or I can rerun the data from say 5 days ago- with a minor change in the scan.
Sean's batch file is the WTG- but due to time limits and initially not getting it right- I have not accomplished it yet- maybe I can go for it in Cleveland.
hardcoded Metastock output- is no longer necessary.

Also please ask Dr. Harry O. to send me a private message via SI as my email is broken.

thanks
