Paganini. I think you are missing my point. The import/export business is quite complex, both from the methods that can be used (though I would think that a Letter of Credit would be used for a first transaction), and any financing (for instance bridging the gap between shipment of the goods/payment and their receipt). A bank is required for both these processes ... so the only reason for using PNLK facilities is to find a potential partner. I realise this was PNLK's aim, but they have also discussed extending the service to providing contacts for financing. Also, the idea of completing an L/C form without assistance just won't work for companies new to this market .... no matter how good the printing service/instructions that are provided are.

The alternative is using a call collection or similar for the transaction, but this takes a massive leap of faith that your new partner will ever deliver on their side of the deal .... these are usually used only in long established partnerships where there is a history of trust.

Its a long time since I have been involved in documentary credit, so maybe some things have changed. If anyone else has a more recent insight I would be interested to hear their views.

The above would mean making a major change to PNLK's business model. Initially, I think having some KNOWLEDGABLE people to speak to at the end of a telephone line would help them tremendously to succeed in what I perceive as the first measurable target of their strategy (sign-ups), and the revised business model would almost evolve by itself.

JMHO ... Glenn monitors these posts so I assume he's seen at least one of my messages in this regard.

Good luck all

Stephen
