Chip, I DON'T NEED TO READ YOUR LINK !!!! < GG > to learn about the importance of multiplayer!!! I see it everyday right here in my home. I have two kids who are essentially glued into the PC playing games with neighborhood kids. This is going way beyond anything I had imagined. Here is what is going on with these teenagers;
- in between homework--> playing games
-hooked up with their neighborhood friends.
-when friend is absent he is playing with "somebody" on the web.
-his friend has an ISDN line to gain advantage on speed on my son.
-my son now wants an ISDN line for this.
-if TDFX hadn't gotten down to 16 from 36, he WOULD have had an ISDN line by now, EVEN IF HE WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR IT HIMSELF.
-He is working on setting up a local aerea network in my home, with his and his friend's PC with frequent trips to CompUSA or best buy to get the necessary hardware and cables. ( I put a stop to that: I am not tripping over cable wires to walk through the house; it may happen though when I am not here).
-unbeknownst to me he broke into my FalconNorthwest PC (https://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=4711658 ),
took the Voodoo 2 card out and put it in his Falcon PC ( paid out of his savings, 2 years worth of housechores ) to go SLI and speed up game playing.
I found out about it accidentally because this new PC puts out warnings if anybody tampers with it ).
-he feels I don't need my brand new computer for ( mainly ) surfing the web, that that in fact borders criminal behavior, and that the best thing to do really, is give HIM my computer, and for me to use his instead.
-he is working on getting the Voodoo Ii 12MB card , in SLI, with the new INTC motherboard with a pentiumII450 MZ
- spends during his vacation about ? 5 hours - 6 hours a day playing games.
-only uses TDFX products.
-is investing in a rewritable CDDrive to copy games for his friends.
( I suggested to him not to do that because it is illegal! GG ).

Finally, the only reason I tolerate the above is because his and his brother's school work is awsome.

Conclusions:

-Some people might call this a national addiction.
-However it may be an advantage for TDFX, ?!,and,
-MONT is clueless,

All IMHO

back tonight, later,

TA

Here's something I thought was relevant to your earlier point about violence in games. An excerpt from:

voodooextreme.com
The truth is, nobody but we here at Ritual knows what Sin looks like at this moment ... Localized pain and damage is very cool, and has a lot of cool side affects that will push gameplay beyond what people now know. Can you imagine the ability to use the sniper rifle to zoom in on a guys left eye and shoot it out? That technology is in.
