Most likely the Montgomery analyst hasn't got a clue about the difference between different cards, so the concern about competition would mostly be the assumption that more cards entering the 3D market means more competition. It doesn't necessarily mean others will outcompete, but perhaps that margins will suffer from price competition. Intel, as always, is the big fear.
Here is where the name brand value comes into play. I think TDFX has a major sales momentum underway that is unlikely to be sidetracked unless there is a combination of 1) significantly improved technology and 2) significantly lower prices to woo buyers to other alternatives. Without clear signs of this or slowing 3D sales, I think TDFX should hang in strong.
