I think that is the big difference between Ancor and Brocade. Ancor is always working on possibilities while Brocade makes actual sales!

"..... his quote was that the fibre channel ocean floats a lot of boats."

Walter,

What is the sound of one hand clapping? In my opinion, there is no point in calling investor relations unless they actually say something.

Walter-Thanks for the Steve Snyder update.Been out most of the month and have only been able to follow the boards occassionally so thanks again.
My understanding of IBM is that each division is run as a separate business and make decisions independently of each other and that the two divisions that will have the majority of FC is 1)the area Brocade seems to have won which will have the largest and earliest implementation of FC and 2)IBM-IGS which is smaller for FC, but I believe IGS is the fastest growing division inside of IBM. Hope Ancor keeps that foot in the door.

KJ, George or Craig- Question- Will IBM be selling FC switches as part of a total package or selling the switches as independent units or both? The reason I ask is that IBM's sales are going away from direct sales and will rely in the future on 1)resellers(Systems integrators) and down the line on 2)direct selling via the internet(as they are a huge believer and supporter of E-commerce). IBM found out the hard way that Systems intgrators didn't want complete IBM solutions shoved down their throats.Sequent was an important OEM because the FC switch was part of a total package and an integral part of the hardware, hence you either use a Brocade switch or use some other technology for transfering data. Will the same be true for IBM or will they be selling individual FC switches with an IBM label on it? "IF" Ancor can land one of the few remaining large OEM's, will the real battle in FC, between the Silkworm and the MKII be decided among the IT managers and systems integrators (who will look basically at switches from Brocade and Ancor with other's companies labels on it) as opposed to who has the most OEM's? Just some questions.

Not sure what to make of Roy's pre-announcement!!!

Thanks in advance, Ed

I listed Sequent, EMC, Sun, Compaq, Hewlet Packard, and Dell, as being
lost to Brocade, (some via Mcdata and Storage Technology) his quote was
that the fibre channel ocean floats a lot of boats. Other OEM
possiblities he mentioned were Hitachi, Siemens, Unisys, among lesser
known names.>>
Walter:
I thought I had been paying attention , so some of these names are new to me. Are you sure?. Apologies to thread if this has been asked and answered..I'm wading thru many posts.
