Also if 3com controls NIC and Modem market, they are in the position to set/influence the next set of standards as well as providing the next level of major lucrative upgrade such as xDSL.
For example, I think the next generation of modemes will have v.90 immbeded with xDSL technology and will autosense the type of connection.
