Thanks Michelle for the info ... very good points. Here's more on what I'm thinking:

It's well known that ORCL's 10.7 smart client apps don't scale or perform and that analysts are telling large customers not even to consider it. So at least their NC architecture is an alternative. But the problem is that it's brand new, unproven, is very non-MSFT oriented ... and thus different from what customers have grown accustomed to for deploying other business applications. If they have the same problems with 11 that they're having with 10.7 ... watch out. On the other hand, if it really kicks butt, it could be a big advantage for them.

If you're a new customer in the evaluation phase comparing ORCL's NC app architecture to that of SAP, BAANF, or PSFT, I think ORCL's solution sounds pretty risky. Especially since ORCL's well known for delivering product (especially in apps) before it's ready.

Next couple quarters should be interesting. I'm sure ORCL's marketing machine will be all over it.

I think it's a very real possibility that their new NC architecture could temporarily slow app sales due to it's risk ... that people won't be willing to bet on it until there are some big success stories out there. The timing of this temporary slowdown could really be bad ... it may occur when they need strong app growth the most.

One last thing. How were they able to convert all their existing apps over to this new architecture? I think it may only be available on a subset of their existing apps ... which is a very ORCL thing to do.
