NORTEL (NORTHERN TELECOM) AND CABLETRON SYSTEMS CONTINUE TO
LEVERAGE THEIR STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIP TO PROVIDE WORLD-CLASS
INTEGRATED VOICE AND DATA SOLUTIONS
Recently announced product developments solidify the
ongoing relationship
DALLAS, June 18 /CNW/ - Nortel ( Northern Telecom) (NYSE:
NT), and Cabletron (NYSE: CS) today confirmed that they will
continue to work together to integrate their voice and data
technologies to provide advanced business solutions, such as
the recently announced Nortel Norstar Integrated Data Module
200 and the Nortel Integrated Network Management (INM)
Broadband.
"At Nortel, we have and will always be committed to
developing and integrating the leading-edge technology
necessary to provide our customers simple, secure, reliable and
cost-effective Power Networks for voice and data," said Jim
Long, president, Enterprise Networks, Nortel. "As an essential
part of delivering on that promise, we will continue to work
with Cabletron to offer our customers joint solutions whenever
their networking needs call for it."
"In today's competitive information-based economy,
customers need real-world solutions for integrated voice and
data," said Craig Benson, president and CEO, Cabletron Systems.
"Together with Nortel, we are jointly developing integrated
solutions like the Norstar IDM 200 and we are providing the
SPECTRUM Enterprise Management platform for several products,
including the Broadband INM solution. These deliver solid
business benefits for our customers and enhance their
profitability and competitiveness."
Jointly developed as a solution for giving smaller site,
multi-site or branch office businesses a first-of-its-kind
solution for streamlined, cost-effective integrated networking,
the Norstar IDM 200 integrates with an existing Norstar Modular
ICS key system unit (KSU) to consolidate the functionality of a
multiplexer, router and LAN hub into a single system with
minimal hardware requirements. The solution enables affordable
LAN-to-WAN access by supporting voice calls and data traffic
over a single T-1 telephone line.
This jointly developed solution enables the smaller site to
realize the full potential of integrated networking, with
minimal costs in hardware and network access. Through this
solution, Nortel and Cabletron bring the power of the network
to a much broader population.
Service providers operating a network comprised of both IP
Data and Optical equipment are now able to manage their network
with a system based on Nortel's successful Integrated Network
Management (INM) Broadband solution. The first enterprise
management system that Nortel selected to integrate with INM
Broadband is the Cabletron Systems' SPECTRUM(tm) Enterprise
Manager.
Nortel and Cabletron continue to work together to leverage
the existing strengths of both companies for the benefit of the
customer.
Enterprise Networks and Enterprise Data Networks are
business units of Nortel, a diversified provider of
market-leading communications equipment, services and network
solutions for business, commerce and entertainment. Nortel had
1997 revenues of $US 15.5 billion and has approximately 73,000
employees worldwide.
