Tom Dorsey to Nancy The Relative Strength Dogs of the Dow are simply our way of creating a systematic program of investing in the Dow Jones very similar to O'Higgins original Dogs of the Dow. The original method ranked the Dow stocks as to the 10 highest yielding stocks in the Dow Jones and then selecting the 5 lowest for investment. The process entails investing an equal dollar amount and holding group for one full year. This strategy has been underperforming for the last couple of years and possibly that is because dividends area an integral part of the program and they are sparse at these levels. A stock must also pay a dividend to be included. We developed a diffferent way to playing this strategy. We rank all Dow stocks that are in columns of X's on their relative strength charts and then buy the five lowest price. This strategy has outperformed the original method for the last 10 years and has outperformed the Dow last year and this year while the original has not. Our method allows all stocks in the Dow to be considered. One could also use LEAPS for this strategy. Tom
