Yeah, well "end-to-end" connectivity is not all what it's cracked up to be. I remember that that is exactly the reasoning Eric B. gave for purchasing USRX, and where did that leave us? I don't see any telecom companies running to 3Com to set them up with WANs and routers and other high-margin products because 3Com can also provide the NICs and the modems. Heck, they would rather go pick those up at CompUSA around the corner. The problem, IMHO, is that NICs and modems can't be used to leverage anything precisely because they are commodities. If 3Com told a customer that it had to buy its routers with its modems, they would be laughed out of the room. Best solution: let Ericcson or Siemens buy us out at 35-40 cash and spin off Eric and his NICs and modems to shareholders so he can do what he does best -- squeeze the bejeezus out of the margins.
