When Iomega started their long road to save their ass by bringing out the Zip, they were a very lean and mean engineering, management and, particularly, marketing team. They put in the long hours needed to get the job done. But they were also following a marketing driven vision under Kim Edwards' leadership. They sure as hell ain't got that kind of drive and leadership now as far as I can tell. To be fair, it is definitely not easy to produce really great products as the Zip still is. But they've gotta try - really try. So far, their R&D output has been embarrassing considering the $MM spent. I think that's because they've lost that marketing/engineering/management teamwork. As to their general problems with selling present product, I think they haven't been aggressive at all in being competitive. The Jaz prices are predatory on the consumer - why for God's sake? If the damn thing can't be made cheap enough - drop it. A lot of their problems seem to come one after the other in a sort of parade. First they can't produce fast enough. Next they have quality problems. Then their prices haven't come down on an aggressive scale to stay competitive. And now, their new products seem not to follow intelligent direction guided by keen marketing. I do believe Clik! can be successful - in fact, very successful - if only marketing could do a good job defining what the hell Clik! should be.
