Andy, >>Instead of getting down on those "terrible pirates," I say that MSFT's sofware is obviously too expensive. Also a point that is always overlooked is the fact that there are people who NEVER will pay for software. Just like people who pirate cable, litter, etc. I am sure there are more pirated copies of software floating around the U.S. than in China due to our large computer base. Bill Gates has been whining about piracy since the '70s and seems to have a mania for it; like they are taking the food out of his children's mouth or something. It would be interesting to find out how many copies of software are shoplifted from American stores. >>Getting back to China, do you think the government there: >> >>1) would work with MSFT to eradicate the "problem" >>2) would stand by and look the other way as the pirates worked >>3) would be involved in the pirate trade Considering the size of the Chinese government, I'd say all three! >>...other points I have are that Sun has always charged, and continues to charge, too much for their products. Their stuff isn't even that easy to use is it? I think they probably have charged too much in the past but are getting more in line with reality the way Apple has. Networking-wise, the Sun seems to be far easier to use/configue. I've seen more technicians "tweaking" NT to keep it running than any Sun around here. At $40+/hr, it does not take alot of tweaking to bridge the price difference between a Sun and NT workstation. >>Microsoft's stuff "sucks less" for the average consumer. Less than who? Apple? Sun's are not consumer PC's as far as I know. >>The BeOS sounds very interesting. Have not run it myself but people keep telling me how well-written it is. I doubt MSFT will be supporting it (at least for the Intel platform). Cheers, Norm
