And even MORE off-topic chatter. It's all CatLady's fault.

Keeping track of all the patches too all my various "toys" was turning out to be a never-ending job. Display drivers, sound card drivers, yadda yadda yadda. Keeping up with the hourly DirectX releases is a full-time job.

I finally threw in the towel and bought a copy of Oil Change, which is something I swore I would never do. I'm a techie and I can damn well maintain my own system. Right.

I don't like Oil Change's cutesy interface and hate the lack of control I have over the process, but it does do an excellent job of keeping track of the never-ending list of patches and enhancements. How's that for a back-handed endorsement? It's a CyberMedia product, and I lost a sh*t-load of money on CYBR. Oh, well.

When I ran it for the first time, I was amazed to find out that there were way over 100 patches and enhancements available for my system. About 25 of those were for Windoze '95 alone.

Of course, 15 of the "patches" were new maps for Quake and Tomb Raider, but I did end up downloading some. I lust after Lara.
