Pigboy Apology accepted. I have said it before, I believe that ANCR has a good management team. I met with them at N+I in Las Vegas and was impressed. The products are good, and are sellable. It just takes a long time. Brocade has been working on these deals since January of 1996. And the implementation of FC switching has not been as quick as we all had hope. When I was VP Sales we thought we'd have 5-7 OEM's by now, and be sharing them. There aren't even 3 shipping in volume. This delay has been caused by disk vendor delays, and implementation delays for native tape backup systems, and performance issues. Most are resolved and we expect the need for FC to start booming. All of the FC companies have burned BIG dollars of VC money, and they always want a return. As I've said before, price per port is a significant barrier to high volume and optical costs are the major part of that problem right now. There are very few people that can bury a 10K-20K$ switch in a product and make their normal margins on top of that (makes the street price $25K-60K (ouch...) There is no such thing as secured, trust me. Brocades IPO was delayed for market reasons (the market wants you to have several OEM's with none being more than 20% of revenue), and they are wise to wait. Public disclosure of quarterly sales figures is a pain in the ass (I know since I sit on the board of a publicly traded software company) Besides dealing wioth investores (non-vc) is even worse.....(re: this thread for example) My parents still summer in Wisconsin, and I rarely get back anymore. My dad dragged me home for some fishing last summer and I'd forgotten the mosquitos the size of birds (Condors in Califonia are smaller) (I am still scratching one of the bites) During the trip I went to visit UW (First time in 15 years) and was surprised at how big it's grown....They still get my Alumni check though. You should be able to invest in a couple of FC companies in hte next twelve months. As always buyer beware, this is a very tough business to make it in. And the fat lady (andy one of the big netowrking companies) hasn't sung yet. As to knowing more about Brocade, there are now enough former VP's and employees out there that you should be able to call a couple of them up and get more opinions. As to what makes them successful, just a couple of people make up the core design team and Dave Banks is the guy who is the franchise. I have NEVER met a better engineer in my career. Andy Bechtolsheim thinks he's awesome too. He designed the Silkworm switch based on Kumar Malavalli's architecture and did a great job. regards Roy Sardina
