Jay,

1)I think that having many applications open and active that are internet connected/supported ie applets, no APPLETS will put the strain on a desktop system. Voice is a tough ap, but it will take a long time before you can walk around the room and talk to your computer like they do on 'Voyager'. Now that will need MIPS.

2)Too narrow a definition for me. The spectrum of boxes that IBM manufactures is very wide. I'm convinced that IBM is deep into 'main frame' (whatever that is today... I remember when there really were main 'frames' and rooms of relay racks) being viewed as the 'web server'. That really isn't too far away from when the 'main frame' was viewed as a 'real-time transaction processor'. It is the realization/perception that must be communicated, achieved and maintained. OS/390 and it's JAVA extensions are aimed at 'server software'.

3)They just eliminated 'unlimited' access for their paying internet customers....

4)I'm not sure if this is real or an outdated impression, today. I'm not taking about one SKU, but total cost of systems/services.

There is a lot of talk on the IBM thread.... stop over and get varied opinions.... read my profile... I'm not neutral and (SEC statement follows:) I do not give investment advice, only my personal opinions.
