Nortel (Northern Telecom) [NYSE:NT] and Cabletron [NYSE:CS] say they will continue to work together in an effort to integrate their voice and data technologies into advanced business products. One such product, the Norstar IDM 200, reportedly integrates with an existing Norstar Modular ICS key system unit (KSU) to consolidate the functionality of a multiplexer, router, and local area network (LAN) hub into a single system with minimal hardware requirements. The product enables LAN-to-wide area network (WAN) access by supporting voice calls and data traffic over a single T-1 telephone line. Nortel's Nortel Power Networks, for example, applies high-capacity digital communications technology to customer needs through the integration of products and services including: Meridian 1 and Norstar digital switching; Companion wireless "solutions;" the Nortel Symposium multimedia communications portfolio; and Internet and intranet access and security products.
